Wolves fans have a worrying theory about Vitor Pereira after disastrous deadline day and summer

Wolves have finished transfer deadline day with just one new signing, much to the annoyance of fans.

Wanderers fans woke up this morning hopeful of seeing at least two new faces come in, one being Tolu Arokodare.

Arokodare’s move to Wolves was in the pipeline after he flew in yesterday, and the Nigerian did indeed join Wolves for a fee of £24 million.

But frustratingly, he was the only incoming in the end.

Vitor Pereira had really wanted a new midfielder, and a few names were mentioned over the last 24 hours or so, including Hayden Hackney, Nicolas Raskin and Josh Brownhill.

But Wolves weren’t able to get anyone in, and one can only imagine how frustrated Pereira must be.

And this evening on social media, with the window having just officially closed, some are sharing the same concerning theory.

Pereira has been vocal about having a squad that has quality options in every position.

Pereira was eyeing a mid-table finish this season, which would have been good progress after finishing 16th last term.

But he will now struggle to achieve that, having undoubtedly been left short-changed by his superiors.

The Wolves recruitment team, that was recently restructured, has failed, overseeing many departures of key players while bringing in unproven players.

It will be a miracle if Wolves stay up, and some feel that Pereira could actually walk away soon given how he’s been let down.

@JakeLongworth: “If I’m Vitor Pereira, I’m walking. He’s been hung out to dry without any incomings (and none of us are surprised because it happens every year).”

@Aveeeery: “Surprised if Vitor doesn’t walk, wouldn’t blame him #FosunOut #wwfc.”

@oli__wwfc: “If I was Vitor I’d walk #wwfc.”

@BCCCCCC_: “Wouldn’t be surprised if Vitor walks tbf, he’s been saying for weeks he needs 3-4 more players and the club have gave him 1, probably more outgoings later as well, squad is as thin as paper already.”

@MrPauloGoodman: “If I’m Vitor I walk. He’s been sold down the river and lied to. He’s now expected to perform a miracle with the weakest squad in the league. Absolute shambles and we deserve to be relegated – if he gets us to 25 points he wins Manager of the Year IMO.”

Pereira resignation at Wolves would be no surprise

Pereira said earlier this summer he wouldn’t walk away from Wolves, stating it would be ‘impossible’ for him to leave the club that allowed him to showcase his managerial ability in the Premier League.

There has also even been talk of Pereira opening new contract talks with Wolves.

But the picture looks radically different now, and there is no way he can be happy with the summer Wolves have just had.

Wolves have lost players who were proven game-changers, with Premier League experience, and replaced them with total gambles.

The failure to land a good quality midfielder for Pereira just capped off what an awful window this has been, and the Portuguese ultimately walking away would ultimately be no surprise.

It would be a massive shame. Pereira has done such a great job and built a wonderful connection with the supporters.

But it’s looking like Fosun have failed him, just as they did Gary O’Neil, Julen Lopetegui and Bruno Lage.
